This course emphasizes knowledge and critical thinking skills that will enable students to understand media communication in the twenty-first century and to use media effectively and responsibly. Students will analyze and evaluate the impact of the media on society and individuals, explore the impact of technology on media production and consumption, and demonstrate the skills needed to create media products. The course emphasizes the development of media literacy skills and incorporates hands-on experiences with various media forms and technologies.

A. Understanding Media Texts

By the end of this course, students will:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of a variety of media texts.

  2. Deconstruct media texts, identifying the codes, conventions, and techniques used and explaining how they create meaning.

  3. Analyze and evaluate how media texts reflect and shape the perspectives and values of individuals and groups.

  4. Evaluate media texts in terms of audience, purpose, and effectiveness.
