Visual Arts – AVI2O

This course enables students to develop their skills in producing and presenting art by introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic exploration and experimentation. Students will apply the elements and principles of design when exploring the creative process. Students will use the critical analysis process to reflect on and interpret art within a personal, contemporary, and historical context. Prerequisite: None

By the end of this course, students will be:

Strand A: Creating and Presenting

Apply the creative process to create a variety of artworks, individually and/or collaboratively.

Apply the elements and principles of design to create art for the purpose of self-expression and to communicate ideas.

Use a variety of media, tools, techniques, and technologies to create and present art works.

Demonstrate an understanding of the critical analysis process by examining, interpreting, and reflecting on various artworks.

Demonstrate an understanding of how art works reflect personal and community values, and how they can influence society.

Identify and describe opportunities for ongoing engagement in visual arts and the relevance of visual arts in various careers.

C1. Terminology
Demonstrate an understanding of, and use correct terminology to describe, elements, principles, and styles in visual arts.

C2. Conventions and Techniques
Demonstrate an understanding of conventions and techniques used in visual arts.

C3. Responsible Practices
Demonstrate an understanding of responsible practices related to creating, presenting, and viewing art.
