Core French – FSF2D

This course enables students to increase their knowledge of the French language and further develop their language skills. Students will communicate about academic and personally relevant topics in real-life situations with increasing independence and fluency.They will continue to develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French, and will expand their understanding of the culture of Francophone communities in Canada and around the world. Emphasis is placed on developing language skills through active and creative use of French in a variety of contexts.

By the end of this course, students will be:

Strand A: Listening

Determine meaning in a variety of authentic oral French texts.

Interpret messages accurately while interacting with others using spoken French.

Communicate information and ideas orally in French in a clear and coherent manner.

Participate in spoken interactions using appropriate vocabulary and expressions.

C1. Reading Comprehension
Determine meaning in a variety of authentic written French texts.

C2. Purpose, Form, and Style
Identify the purpose and characteristics of different text forms, and explain how they communicate meaning.


Strand D: Writing

D1. Developing and Organizing Content
Generate, develop, and organize ideas for writing in French.

D2. Writing to Communicate
Communicate ideas and information in French clearly and coherently in written form.

D3. Applying Language Conventions
Use appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation in written French.


Strand E: Intercultural Understanding

E1. Exploring Culture
Demonstrate an understanding of information about the diverse cultures of French-speaking communities.

E2. Developing Intercultural Awareness
Use French to explore and reflect on aspects of their own culture and that of Francophone communities.
